I had an abortion when I was 19. And, that was the deepest shame I had ever carried. However, this shame was not my own, it was the shame of harsh policies and misinformation. It was the shame of male judgement. It was the shame this country carries, for the decades and decades of women fighting for access to reproductive healthcare.

It is the shame my grandmother would feel. As she would believe that I had committed a crime, that I had committed murder.

My mother was 19 when she gave birth to my brother.
